Therefore, beauty ideals have also spread through globalization. And what is the reaction of the people? Let us start by considering the facts.
Modern society imposes some standards of beauty. As a result, we see depression, apathy, anger, diffidence, which lead to a psychological complex. For the great majority of people this distorted idea of a person about himself (his mental, physical, or psychological qualities) provokes the appearance of an inferiority complex. The feelings of inferiority encourage people to more and more drastic measures.
Anorexia is a serious mental illness, which has become especially popular due to the distorted standards of beauty dictated by the fashion industry. Modern designers and filmmakers elevate the exceptional thinness to the rank of the ideal appearance. Moreover, young girls and women tend to correspond to the image of a model, fearing to gain even a few «extra» pounds.
Bulimia is one of the most widespread nutritional disorders of the twenty-first century. It is a periodic or frequent weight instability, with the periods of uncontrollable overeating and the following forms of purging (such as random vomiting or taking laxatives, excessive exercise or fasting). Any of these methods are injurious to health. Experts emphasize that bulimia is often connected with some mental disorders, high risk of suicide and self-mutilation.
It is undeniable that the plastic surgery has become increasingly popular in the pursuit of an ideal. People all over the world continue to go under the surgeon's knife intentionally. Besides, we observed the same obsession with facelifts and interest to the botulinum toxin injections. It is a well-known fact that there is a risk of medical complications caused by plastic surgery. What is more, surgery can also cause addiction of organism.
